Prior to the announcement that movie theatres would be reopening, Disney announced that they would be releasing a few of their most highly anticipated films of the year exclusively on their streaming service, Disney+. One of their most anticipated movies is the live-action retelling of their 1998 film, Mulan. At the time of release, the exciting animated tale was one of Disney’s most popular films. The exciting and classic tale still resonates with fans today and many are excited about the announcement.

Mulan, 1998; Summary: Young Mulan is distraught to learn that her weak father must join the army to fight the invading Huns. Unwilling to endanger his life, she disguises herself as a man and joins the army in his place.

In recent years, Disney has been remaking many of their popular animated films with real people. While some do not like these remade projects lots of people are excited about projects such as Mulan, including us. The new Mulan does not follow the original story like many other live-action remakes from Disney. While the original synopsis inmates that of the original story, this version of Mulan does not include some of the beloved characters from the original film, including Li Shang and Mushu. The creators of the film said that they wanted to keep this version of Mulan close to the ancient Chinese poem that inspired the animated version of the film, The Ballad of Mulan.
