Why did God give the devil authority on earth?

God gave satan limited power over the earth.

When God created the earth, he looked and saw that it was lacking as we learned in Genesis 1. After creating the earth, he then created the first man: Adam. In time, God realized that Adam was lonely. Once he realized this, God immediately made a female companion for Adam named Eve. God loved Adam and Eve so much, that he gave them everything to freely take. They did not have to work for anything whatsoever. They had access to everything they needed and wanted, except for one distinct fruit tree. That tree was called the tree of life. Touching the fruit and eating from the tree was strictly forbidden.

As mentioned in Genesis 3, one day the devil came to the Garden of Eden. He told Eve that she should eat the fruit from the tree of life. She saw the fruit and was tempted by the devil to eat it, and so she did. Eve then convinced Adam that they should eat and he did so as well.

God gave satan power over the earth and with it, sin, shame and suffering were introduced to earth.

After God was disobeyed by Adam and Eve, he decided to punish them. From there on, suffering and hardship began on earth. Most of the punishments God gave to Adam and Eve are still with mankind in the day and age we are living in today. This is why satan is allowed to tamper with us as much as he wants. The original sin Adam and Eve committed allows satan to cause pain and suffering throughout mankind.

This is why we have to work hard to accumulate everything we need or want. Our struggles will continue till God says we had enough. Additionally, the devil will continue to be consistent in our everyday suffering. Only God can save us from our suffering and we must remember his promises to us. Also, he said many times in the Bible that his way is not to kill us and that it is only for good intentions.

1 Peter 5:10

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Romans 8:18,

For I consider that the sufferings of this present, are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

1 Peter 4:12-19

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ. You are blessed because the Spirit of glory, and of God rests upon you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed. but let him glorify God in that name
