Knowing the Ten Commandments, which were given by the only true God which is in Heaven, is very important.
What are The Ten Commandments? Understanding and knowing the Ten Commandments are important for Christians. God gave us all many laws that are important everyone should keep. John 14:21 says “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” God gave all of us instructions that He is expecting us to follow while we are on this earth.
Many do not know that God has changed some of those laws that were given in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, it is quite clear that God has abolished some laws. Therefore, it is essential to know which laws are abolished, and which are still kept. How to tell? Find an original Bible and read it. You will find the truth.
As of 2021, many fake Bibles are rewritten with lies that will deceive you. Therefore, you must educate yourself about God’s ways, and the truth. Additionally, if you are struggling to understand what you are reading, you should talk to a pastor. Speaking to a Bible-abiding pastor is instrumental in understanding God’s given words, and his ways of living.

Understanding the Ten Commandments will help you to keep them
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me
God made it clear that He is our God, who had created us. Therefore, we should seek Him and all righteousness will be added to us. Let no man fool you about false gods. God is our beginning and our end. We should never cease to praise Him. Knowing what the Ten Commandments are will help you from getting involved with false gods.
2. You shall make no idols
Here, God is telling us that He is the only true God, and we should serve no other but him. Therefore, if we want His salvation and grace, we should accept Him, follow Him, and trust In Him always. Heaven or hell will all depend on who you serve. Knowing and abiding by the Ten Commandments will increase your chance of earning a spot in Heaven.
3. Thou shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
We should not call out God’s name unnecessarily. There is no reason to call out God’s name in everything that we say or do. Think about it. How annoying would it be if someone kept calling your name for no reason? Therefore, be mindful of what you are calling his name for. Also, be careful of how your phrase your sentences. Remember the story of the little boy who cried out wolf daily? In it, the villagers ran to his rescue only to find that the boy was okay. Although the villagers were angry, the boy laughed at them. There was a day when that boy was getting been by a wolf. At that point, although he cried, no one came that day. Don’t call out for God if you don’t truly need Him.
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
When God created the earth He did it all in 6 days. On the seventh day, He rested and admired His work. He instructed us to do the same. He also said we should keep that day holy. Now does that mean we should go to church on the seventh day? Yes? No? Let me ask another question: do you think keeping a day of the week holy, means going to church? My friends, you can go worship any day of the week you want to. Ultimately, the seventh day is to rest, and not a day to do labour, go to the market or do the things that you do throughout the week.
5. Honour your father and your mother
You should respect your mother and your father. Do not make confusion to them. God chose them to bring you into this world. You must be thankful for them. Therefore, you should obey your mother and your father. You should use wisdom when your parents instruct and command you to do things. Although God wants you to obey them, if they influence you to do ungodly things, you have every right to refuse.
6. Thou shalt not commit murder
How could someone think that they have the right to take the life of another human? Who has given them that right? Only God gives life and only He can take it back. Therefore, I believe this is the most important commandment to be mindful of. This life is not ours to take, and neither it is to keep. When you take someone’s life you can never replace it or give it back. Remember, when you know the Ten Commandments and keep them, God will favour you.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery
For every man God has created, He also created a woman remarkable for a man. We should not match spouses for our children or anyone. God has already done that. However, you can give your blessings to couples rather than force them into a wanted marriage. When you are married you should not cheat. Be faithful to the one God has to bless you with. Also, you should not lust after someone else spouse.
8. Thou shall not steal.
What makes someone think that they have the right to take what another person has? Something that someone put their blood, sweat and tears into to maintain his family. Something that they put all of their breath into. How could you have the heart to go and take his bread? You should get your own. Never take from someone else. Have a heart, for goodness sake. If you ask God and you trust in Him, He will make your journey to getting your own less stressful.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
When you lie to someone, you can destroy their life. I’m sure we are all aware of this. Don’t you know the truth must come out someday? Luke 6:31 says“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Remember this: when you point 1 finger towards it, there are 4 of them pointing back at you.
10. You shall not envy thy neighbour.
Creating hatred in your heart for someone based on their talent and accomplishments is one of the most pathetic ways of living. Wanting to have what others have is not a good habit to have. This world is wide enough for everyone to accomplish their own goals. Therefore, why want what your neighbour has? Ask God to bless you with your own and work for what you want in life.
